Musical Synthesis Evolution: An educational discussion about the history of synthesisers in music with Detroit techno artist, Asher Perkins.

Synthesised sound has made quite the impact on modern music. Without it, genres such as techno would not exist. In this talk, we will be discussing some of the most influential synthesisers of all time, what made them stand out, and how they have been used throughout the past 60 years. Attendees will be guided through history and technology with aural and visual aids, and there will be a hands-on synth demonstration at the end, powered by the PLAYdifferently Model 1 DJ mixer.

Asher Perkins is a Detroit-based electronic musician who has released on Richie Hawtin‘s fabled MINUS label, and regularly produces techno events in the city. Paxahau, the company behind Movement Electronic Music Festival has described him as “an underground warrior” who is “keeping the warehouse ethos alive”.

This event will be held at the Detroit Institute of Music Education (DIME) on October 2nd 2019.
